GJSCI to identify India’s candidate for 43rd WorldSkills Jewellery Competition, Brazil

Over its 60 year history, WorldSkills International (formerly known as the "Skill Olympics") has come to symbolise the pinnacle of excellence in vocational training. Every two years hundreds of young skilled people, accompanied by their teachers and trainers, gather together from around the world to compete before the public in the skills of their various trades and test themselves against demanding international standards. They represent the best of their peers drawn from regional and national skill competitions held currently in 67 countries/regions.

The next WorldSkills Competition is scheduled to be held on 11th – 16th August 2015 at Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Gem & Jewellery Skill Council of India has been mandated by the Government of India to identify and select a candidate to represent the country at the WorldSkills International event.

Born in 1991 at Domjur, Howrah District, West Bengal, Mr. Bhabesh Chandra Jana was chosen after a three-stage rigorous process and went on to represent India internationally after undergoing extensive training. The Honourable Finance Minister felicitated Bhabesh at the launch event of the STAR Scheme.Bhabesh is currently employed as a jewellery craftsman with one of India's finest creators of jewellery at Bengaluru. We narrowly missed a Medal position at Leipzig and are now confident to bring a Gold Medal for the Nation from Sao Paulo.
