On May 9, GIA students graduated from the globally recognized Jewelry Design (JD) Certificate course at the Institute’s Mumbai campus, entering a world of creativity and glamour. They were ushered into this new world by key note speaker Nidhi Yasha, owner and creative director of design service company The NY Studio, Mumbai, who offered advice and handed out diplomas.
Singh shared her valuable experiences, challenges and opportunities in the jewellery design industry, highlighting a growing demand for costume jewellery in television and film. “Thank you so much for welcoming me at GIA. It’s wonderful to see such talented jewellery designers enter this field. I wish you all luck. The designs displayed here by the students are unique, matured and very inspiring,” she added.
The JD Certificate course at GIA teaches the art of conceptualizing and rendering designs for jewellery by combining creativity with a deep understanding of jewellery manufacturing. Designers learn to apply basic principles of design and composition to illustrate their ideas. Jewellery design programmes at GIA teach the technical and practical skills required for this specialized field. The Institute’s design courses range from a two-day class that teaches the basics of design to a comprehensive 9-week programme that allows students to develop a portfolio.
“At GIA, we give students the best possible platform to enter into the professional world of jewellery design. They leave GIA with the confidence to create unique and exquisite jewellery, which is essential to succeeding in the industry. I wish them all the best,” added Nirupa Bhatt, managing director of GIA in India and the Middle East.
