Gemmological Institute of India (GII) inaugurates the Automated Melee Screening (AMS) at the Bharat Diamond Bourse

Gemmological Institue of India (GII) has recently inaugurated the Automated Melee Screening (AMS) machine by Shri Anoop V. Mehta, President, BDB and Shri Arunkumar Mehta, Rosy Blue (India) Pvt. Ltd, installed in the Diamond Detection Resource Center (DDRC) at Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) Mumbai.

On the occassion, Mr. Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC said that, “We are glad to have the AMS machines in the center as they can rapidly detect synthetic stones in parcels of small diamonds ranging from 0.01 - 0.20 carats in a cost effective manner. It addresses a market need for rapid and affordable detection equipment for smaller sized diamonds, which will be of immense benefit for India. The DDRC will enable small traders, who cannot afford the machine, to get their parcels tested at an affordable cost. This will be a great support to the Diamond industry.”

He addded, “I am pleased to inform that GII has already taken up the task of educating people and eliminating the fear of lab grown diamonds from the minds of the people through seminars in Surat, at Opera house and BKC in Mumbai, Coimbatore, and Cambay and are planning to hold seminars in other diamond centers as well.”

DDRC has been providing Detection services for all parcels received till date, and the center also has been offering resources for creating awareness about lab grown diamonds and testing methods. It’s been six months since Diamond Detection Resource Center run by GII has been operational and working towards maintaining consumer confidence in diamonds and more specifically supporting the industry in the detection of synthetics.
