Mr. Naresh Balani, Director, Amrit Gems Tech Pvt. Ltd. opines on the
strengths and challenges faced by the Indian tech sector and talks
about the road ahead. An exclusive:
Technology and Machinery sector in India is evolving and competing with
International tech manufacturers. Your opinion on the growth of indigenous
manufactured tech products and the 'make in India' initiative of the government?
The introduction of several reforms by government of
India to create possibilities for getting Foreign Direct
Investment (FDI) and foster business partnerships through
'make in India' initiative has created a very positive
sentiment in almost all manufacturing segments, with a
direction and an opportunity for India to become a
manufacturing hub
India is poised to become the global hub for jewellery
manufacturing. What according to you are the important
factors that are responsible for the growth of the Indian
jewellery sector?
The important factors according to me is
• Easy Availability
• Low cost production
• Highly skilled labour.
• World's largest cutting and polishing centre for
diamonds
• Supportive Government policies
• 100 % FDI
• More than 300000 small & big Jewellery
Manufacturing Unit Spread across India
How important is service efciency levels when it comes
to distributing and selling state of the art tech and
machine tools in India? Are the Indian manufacturers
geared for the same?
Service efficiency levels are actually the most important
aspect for any business. To prove it I can give an example
of our company being in this industry since 1984, we have
never felt the requirement of our sales team as our products
and services are world class and of International standards.
Our strength is the "After Sales Service" that has made our
products globally acclaimed highly preferred. Yes, Indian
tech manufacturers are definitely geared to offer world
class after sales service.
What are the challenges faced by Indian tech and
machine tool manufacturers in comparison with
International distributors and what are the steps to
overcome the same?
The small machine tool manufacturers need an effective
distribution channel to showcase indigenous
manufactured tech products to the world which we have
been lacking for years. Channels like International
exhibition and trade shows are pathways along which
products travel from producers and manufacturers to
ultimate consumers but for Jewellery machinery manufacturers participating in International trade shows is
still a problem due to high cost and no proper logistics
available to transport to and from Machines
Internationally. International trade shows have actually
been pathways for the gem and jewellery Industry right
from jewellery manufacturers and suppliers to consumers
for a long time. This is not the case when it comes
machinery and tool manufacturers.
What is your advice to the Indian Manufacturers to
expand and grow among the Indian gem and jewellery
sector?
Remember If we lose quality in Technology and
Machinery sector, we lose quality in jewellery
manufacturing. One thing we need to understand very
clearly is that the Industry cannot achieve a high level of
excellence without the machine tools segment being very
strong. So we need the best of support from GJEPC and of
course the government of India
Requesting all jewellery manufacture ring units to
support the 'make in India' initiative of the
government and try to maximize the production
with Indian made machines.
