NIT Trichy to Set Up Innovation Hub for Gems and Jewellery Sector

The National Institute of Technology, Trichy is set to house a dedicated incubation hub for the gem and jewellery sector. This initiative aims to drive innovation, technology upgrades, and entrepreneurship by supporting startups and local businesses.

The project is driven by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation at NIT Trichy.

Operating from the old library block of the campus, the hub will offer end-to-end support. This includes pre-incubation, acceleration, and post-incubation business growth plans. The facility will feature advanced equipment to assist researchers, students, and professionals. Key focus areas include jewellery design, product innovation, and advanced manufacturing through materials and metallurgical advancements.

Beyond core manufacturing, the incubation hub will actively promote digital transformation and encourage sustainable jewellery practices. It will also popularize e-commerce strategies and help local businesses discover fresh export opportunities.

The agreement brings together the council's extensive industry expertise and global market connections with the institute's strong capabilities in innovation management and startup incubation. Ultimately, the hub is expected to solve critical industry problems, boost business development, and generate new employment opportunities within the gems and jewellery trade.
