Dubai Central Laboratory, part of Dubai Municipality, has launched the world’s first Smart Gold and Jewellery Testing Lab - an autonomous, AI-powered device that delivers precise purity results for gold, silver, and platinum in under one minute. Revealed at GITEX GLOBAL 2025, the innovation was developed in partnership with the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group to advance Dubai’s position as a global leader in the trade of precious metals.

Operating without human intervention, the device uses advanced spectroscopic and X-ray technologies, coupled with artificial intelligence, to ensure exceptional accuracy, reliability, and speed. Dr Naseem Mohammed Rafi, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency, said the solution “marks a transformative leap in metal testing and sets a new global standard for speed and precision.”

Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department, added that the system was designed for complete autonomy and user convenience, integrating advanced safety features, real-time performance monitoring, and self-calibration for consistent results.

The first device will be installed at Dubai’s iconic Gold Souk in Deira, followed by phased deployment across key markets. The initiative supports Dubai Municipality’s strategy to develop a fully integrated testing ecosystem that enhances consumer confidence, ensures compliance with global standards, and strengthens the emirate’s competitiveness as a trusted hub for the gold and jewellery trade.

Through this breakthrough, Dubai reaffirms its commitment to innovation, smart governance, and sustainable technological leadership in the global precious metals sector.
