Diamonds and Gold Set for Historic Journey Aboard India's First Private Orbital Rocket

In a landmark moment for both India's space and jewellery industries, diamonds and gold are set to travel into space for the first time aboard an Indian rocket. The payloads will fly on Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1, the country's first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, during its maiden mission, 'Aagaman'.

Developed by Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace, Vikram-1 is also India's smallest orbital rocket and has been designed to carry payloads of up to 350 kilograms into Low Earth Orbit. The launch window is expected to open on July 12 and extend until August 4, subject to technical readiness, weather conditions and regulatory approvals.

Among the mission's most unique payloads is Cosmic Bloom, an artistic diamond jewellery creation by Cosmos Diamonds. Mounted on an aluminium base plate, the piece combines natural diamonds with space technology, highlighting the intersection of luxury, craftsmanship and scientific innovation.

The mission will also carry a miniature gold artwork created by artist Ajay Kumar Mattewada. Known as Microart, the 18-carat gold sculpture features a rocket carrying miniature figures of three iconic Indian scientists: Sir C.V. Raman, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, paying tribute to their contributions to science and space exploration.

Founded by former ISRO scientists Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, Skyroot Aerospace has emerged as one of India's leading private space companies. The Vikram-1 rocket incorporates advanced carbon composite structures and 3D-printed rocket engines, showcasing the country's growing capabilities in commercial space technology.

The mission represents a unique collaboration between aerospace engineering, art and the jewellery industry, marking the first time diamond and gold creations will be carried into orbit aboard an Indian launch vehicle, creating a symbolic milestone for innovation across multiple sectors
