The International Gemological Institute (IGI), in association with India’s leading business school, S P Mandali’s Principal L N Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (WeSchool), recently launched the Jewelry Design and Business Management Program in Mumbai. The program brings experts in the field of gem and jewelry as well as business management to develop entrepreneurial designers in the industry.

As a pioneer and prominent leader in the field of gemological courses with schools across the globe; IGI, with WeSchool, marks the collaboration of technical education with principal business management curriculum from one of the premier business schools in the country.

Aimed at empowering jewelry designers with an entrepreneurial prowess, the program is a three-month certification course that is designed to bring out the best of creativity in a designer while honing their managerial abilities. Each class will cater to 25 design professionals, helping them to achieve creative pursuits while also assisting them in managing the day-to-day operations at the retail level. Students having completed their higher secondary education may enroll for the program, which provides in-depth knowledge about jewelry business and the industry across various aspects that are crucial to running a successful business venture.

Speaking at the launch of the program, Tehmasp Printer, managing director – IGI, said, “The integration of jewelry design curriculum with managerial studies is an opportunity for design professionals to increase their business acumen. The IGI-WeSchool Jewelry Design and Business Management course is specially curated to help design aspirants prepare for a career in the field of jewelry design and retail management. The curriculum aims at developing business professionals who will redefine the scope of jewelry business in the gem and jewelry sector."

Extending hands-on practical experience, helping the students apply their learnings in a working environment, the program is, in the true sense a designer’s initiation into the gem and jewelry industry and its operations. Both IGI and the WeSchool intend to empower over 100 design professionals by the end of 2020 with the program. As IGI is preferred by leading luxury brands and retailers across the world as a trusted source for training, this course and its future graduates are more valuable than ever.

“The partnership with IGI aims to bring out the best of industry-academia in the gems and jewelry segment. The program would be resourceful to those individuals who are aspiring to enter the gems and jewelry field or who have recently switched to the retail jewelry chain. Our partnership with IGI ensures the best from industry experts and a knowledgeable outcome,” said Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool.
